5 Steps to Help Produce Intimate Worship

We can experience the outstanding, powerful God that is Holy!

Here are 5 things you can do in your worship that will help to produce intimacy with him. He doesn’t want us to admire him from afar!

1. Sing TO — Don’t just Sing About Him

Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. (Psalm 96:1 NIV)

Don’t sing just about Him, but sing to Him. It makes all the difference. When you sing about him, you list back to Him His characteristics. When you sing to him, you tell Him how much He means to you. When you sing to him, it becomes personal and not just a statement about Him.

2. Simple — Intimacy Demands Simplicity

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” Revelation 5:13

Complex songs can distract from focusing on Him. The simpler the better for intimacy. Meditate on each phrase. Repetition of simple phrases reinforces his desire for us. The Bible is full of this pattern: Psalm 136 has 26 repetitions of the phrase “His love endures forever.”

3. Emotional — Worship Needs to Engage Our Emotions

An encounter with God requires an emotional connection, or else not complete. Don’t be afraid of your emotions. God is an emotional God. Emotional encounters are the ones that transform our lives. Intellectual encounters alone are only partial encounters.

4. Physical

Get your entire body involved and freedom will come.

Voice:  “I love the LORD, because He hears my voice.” (Psalm 116:1 NASB)

Eyes: “To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!” (Psalm 123:1)

Hands: “Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!” (Psalm 47:1)

Feet: David, wearing an linen ephod, danced before the Lord with all his might ( 2 Samuel 6:14)

5. Spirit Led

God is Spirit, and his worshippers must worship in Spirit and in Truth. John 4:24

Involve Holy Spirit and not just your brain. Ask for his help in getting closer to Jesus and Father. Holy Spirit will guide you into how to best communicate at the moment.
