This is a Good Day for Your Goliath to Die!

Introduction

Being a pioneer has its rewards! You get to go where no one has gone before! You get to see and experience things that very few people get to see and experience. You live a live of adventure that is never boring.

But our enemy the devil does not want you to take new ground for Jesus. When you do this it means that he loses ground. The enemy will often use one of the following three things to keep you from moving forward. By studying these challenges now it will help you to quickly realize what is going on and not be caught off guard.

3 Challenges To Pioneers

1. People

There are people that will come along and try to stop you from doing God’s will. A common method to do this is intimidation. Usually the intimidation is subtle. But it can be overt to the point of harassing you or making fun of you.

King David faced much intimidation from the literal giant Goliath in his life. We can learn some principles from his battle with Goliath to apply to our own life. Goliath represented the flesh, the power of this world, and the things of this world. As you walk with God people who are not walking with God always come against the things of the Spirit. So if you are walking with the Spirit people will come against you.

Do not be caught off guard or surprised by what will come against you and try to get you to back down. Goliath threatened and yelled insults at the Israelites for 39 days. His words worked. The Israelites were scared by his words and refused to act.

8Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour. 9Take a firm stand against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are. 1 Peter 5:8-9 (NLT)

You overcome intimidation by taking a firm stand against whatever is coming against you. Don’t try to be nice or try to talk them out of quitting their harassment. Respond like David did.

45David shouted in reply, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD Almighty—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46Today the LORD will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! 47And everyone will know that the LORD does not need weapons to rescue his people. It is his battle, not ours. The LORD will give you to us!” 1 Samuel 17:45-47 (NLT)

You need to say to that thing or person who is intimidating you, “Today, the Lord will conquer you and I will kill you and cut off your head”. Obviously, we are talking metaphorically here and not literally. But we do need to prophesy to our situation. Be louder than the person or circumstance in the Spirit. Talk to yourself and prophecy over yourself that you are a winner and God is with you and that the intimidation must die.

David didn’t try to talk Goliath into doing right. He just said I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds. The Israelites had already been talking for 39 days without any results!

The entire Israelite army was dressed in battle up on the hill, but because of words and sights of intimidation they backed down. Nobody on that hill in their army was reaching their destiny and purpose. If we are fainting under the intimidation pray for an aggression to come back into your spirit!

12From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it. Matthew 11:12 (NIV)

David’s key was his faith in God, not in his own ability. That was the reason he was able to boast. It is the same reason you are able to boast. The giant you are facing is probably right in his assessments of you. But he is not right about the God that is in you!

37The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you.” 1 Samuel 17:37 (NIV)

Faith is evidenced first by words then by actions. David followed up his words by picking up 5 smooth stones. After you prophesy victory do what you know you can do in faith. It doesn’t take much for God to move. David won by one little stone against all of Goliath’s armor?

2. Problems

Problems are circumstances that come along that seem impossible to get around. These circumstances are stopping you and you don’t know what to do. These can be finances, political situations, relationship problems, etc.

We have to handle the impossible situations in the same way as intimidation from people. You have to talk to the problem followed by whatever action you know to do.

21Then Jesus told them, “I assure you, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,’ and it will happen. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Matthew 21:21-22 (NLT)

3. Powers

A common power that comes against you is demonic religious spirit operating through people who act spiritual. But in reality they are operating in the flesh. Religious people tell you things to try and get you to compromise the destiny that is on your life by accepting something good in exchange. They will tell you that it is too radical, too hard, surely it is not God, etc. in order to steal the life of God from you. What is tricky about this challenge is they do it in the name of God!

5They will act as if they are religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. You must stay away from people like that. 2 Timothy 3:5 (NLT)

Do not be intimidated by a religious spirit that wants to stop you. Someone operating in the religious spirit loves to use the phrase, “Well the Lord told me this”.Don’t be intimidated by this. You can hear from the Lord too.

Religious control tries to get you to accept good instead of God. It tries to get you to accept good ideas instead of the purposes of God. It tries to get you to make yourself, church, ministry, etc. respectable and religious instead of passionate about God. It comes along and gives you ideas to “thwart”, “blunt”, “slow down” your passion and zeal for God. It tries to neuter you like a dog so you can’t reproduce.

It tries to get you to run after the spectacular with an events mindset instead of after true revival which is running after God. If the Devil can’t keep you from become saved, he will try to stunt your growth by becoming religious.

Religious Control tells you that success is large meetings, big budgets, etc. We are called to faithfulness not success – no matter what the faithfulness brings.

1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. 2We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterward. Now he is seated in the place of highest honor beside God’s throne in heaven. 3Think about all he endured when sinful people did such terrible things to him, so that you don’t become weary and give up. Hebrews 12:1-3 (NLT)

The devil, thru a religious spirit operating in a person, doesn’t care what you do as long as you don’t lift up Jesus!

10Because of God’s special favor to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. 11For no one can lay any other foundation than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. 12Now anyone who builds on that foundation may use gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13But there is going to come a time of testing at the judgment day to see what kind of work each builder has done. Everyone’s work will be put through the fire to see whether or not it keeps its value. 14If the work survives the fire, that builder will receive a reward. 15But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builders themselves will be saved, but like someone escaping through a wall of flames. 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 (NLT)

When an entire region of people is drawn unto Jesus then you will have revival. The foundation has to be Jesus, about Jesus, for Jesus, pointing people to Jesus. A Religious Spirit will get you to substitute activity for revival! A Religious Spirit will get you to live in the past of what God has done, instead of creating new memories!

Conclusion

If you will stay on the path and fight these things you will make a difference and create something eternal. You will inherit the promises of Isaiah.

1Even the wilderness will rejoice in those days. The desert will blossom with flowers. 2Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy! The deserts will become as green as the mountains of Lebanon, as lovely as Mount Carmel’s pastures and the plain of Sharon. There the LORD will display his glory, the splendor of our God. 3With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees. 4Say to those who are afraid, “Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.” 5And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unstop the ears of the deaf. 6The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will shout and sing! Springs will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams will water the desert. 7The parched ground will become a pool, and springs of water will satisfy the thirsty land. Marsh grass and reeds and rushes will flourish where desert jackals once lived. 8And a main road will go through that once deserted land. It will be named the Highway of Holiness. Evil-hearted people will never travel on it. It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways; fools will never walk there. 9Lions will not lurk along its course, and there will be no other dangers. Only the redeemed will follow it. 10Those who have been ransomed by the LORD will return to Jerusalem, singing songs of everlasting joy. Sorrow and mourning will disappear, and they will be overcome with joy and gladness. Isaiah 35:1-10 (NLT)

Simply walk out your destiny one obstacle at a time. Tell yourself every day that this is a good day for your Goliath to die!
