Work is NOT A Part of the Curse

Walking to work-207

Sometimes I run across people who think work is a curse. They usually form this thought from this verse.

By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground. Genesis 3:19a

But look closely at this verse. God did not curse them! He only told them what would happen as a result of their disobedience. In fact, work is a gift from God and it only became hard because of disobedience

Work is a gift from God and He Works Too!

Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” John 5:17

God himself spent six days working on the creation. So when we work we are merely following God’s example when we work.

Adam and Eve Worked Before they Disobeyed

The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. Genesis 2:15

He commends and commands work long after the Fall:

As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it. Genesis 9:7

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Colossians 3:23

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you. 1 Thessalonians 4:11

That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil–this is the gift of God. Ecclsiastes 3:13

Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him–for this is his lot. Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work–this is a gift of God. Ecclesiastes 5:18-19

Believe God for a great workplace, great work, and changing our workplace to reflect the glory of God!

We don’t just have to survive in an ungodly place but it’s time to claim our work for God. Actively listen to God as to how to work as a Christian in the job you are in. Believe for a transformation of what you do! It’s possible and it’s His will. Ask Him how to be fruitful and multiply in your garden of work again!
