I realize the prophets in the Old Testament prophesied death and destruction if the people of God did not deal with their sin. But this is not how the prophet works in the New Testament. The purpose of the prophet is the same as the apostle, pastor, evangelist, and teacher. It is to reconcile people to God. In the New Testament it is not about judgment directly. It is about how Jesus was judged so that you wouldn’t have to be. The job of the prophet is to show people what is in heaven that they can access in the earth today.

I want to speak to prophetic people and prophets who only see and speak negative things. Please stop and prophesy something positive! Our God is positive and has a positive outlook for you. Yes, prophets see negative things. But don’t stop there! That is the easy part. Push into God and find what the corresponding godly positive to the negative is. Almost anybody can see the negative. But as prophets we need to learn to declare life into the dead situations we see. Ezekial the prophet was tutored by God on how to do this. Let’s read about it:

God grabbed me. God ‘s Spirit took me up and sat me down in the middle of an open plain strewn with bones. He led me around and among them––a lot of bones! There were bones all over the plain––dry bones, bleached by the sun.  Ezekial 37:1-2 (The Message)

Now some prophets I know would immediately start preaching about how bad the people are, how dead they are, how they are going to be judged and their end is death! But look what God said next in verse 3:

He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Master God, only you know that.

Here comes the lesson to the prophet Ezekial on what to do in bad situations in verses 4-6.

He said to me, “Prophesy over these bones:’Dry bones, listen to the Message of God!'” God, the Master, told the dry bones, “Watch this:I’m bringing the breath of life to you and you’ll come to life. I’ll attach sinews to you, put meat on your bones, cover you with skin, and breathe life into you. You’ll come alive and you’ll realize that I am God!

As prophets we need to ask ourselves, “Is God God or is He already Defeated?” Our land needs prophets of visionary faith. Please take the extra step and ask God how He wants to redeem the situation. When you do, you will find the power of God on your side and then the power of prophets will be seen in the land.
