Overcoming Death – The Final Enemy

The last enemy to be destroyed is death. – 1 Corinthians 15:26

I used to never think about death. As I have gotten older I have thought more about it realizing a day is coming when I will die. It’s not a pleasant thought and I realize there was a time when it was not a thought to anybody at all.

Humans were not created to ever die. We were created to live forever. This is why death is often such a struggle because we weren’t supposed to die.

For the wages of sin is death – Romans 6:23a

We live in an abnormal environment. Death is not the natural order of things. It is the result of sin’s reign in us. It is the result of consequences made by the human race. One day the normal order of living forever will return.

Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 1 Corinthians 15:24-25

Most Christians are realizing a sick body is not God’s will. Sickness is just slow death. So they are believing for health in our bodies using the gifts of the Holy Spirit of healing and miracles. Eventually healings and miracles will become normal for Christians. At that time there will be a group that will recover the last thing brought on by sin – death itself.

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. – Luke 10:19

This will be an exciting time when Christians on earth learn how to contend with the last stronghold of the enemy – death over our physical bodies. They will walk in the knowledge that just as sickness has no authority over us death has no authority over us.

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. – Revelation 1:17-18

Radical? No, just a return to normal.
