God’s ways often don’t make sense to me but they always work.
Here is one of God’s principles that goes against common thinking:
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work,” Exodus 20:8, 9, 10a
Or you kidding? Take 1 day a week off and rest? How will I make enough money? How will I keep my house up? How will I compete at work?
In a world of Wal-Mart being open 7 days a week 24 hours a day this is a very old fashioned – dare I say silly – idea.
Check out this command from God:
“But in the seventh year the land is to have a sabbath of rest, a sabbath to the LORD. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards. Do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the grapes of your untended vines. The land is to have a year of rest.” Leviticus 25:4-5
God is saying even the land should be put to rest every 7 years!
If this is God’s principle then it follows we will produce more, be more creative, have better priorities, and be more prosperous in the long run by working 6 days instead of 7. The reason is when you are rested you hear the promptings of the Holy Spirit better. It is these promptings that change our lives when we obey them.
Having a hard time like me believing it? Check out this verse:
“You may ask, “What will we eat in the seventh year if we do not plant or harvest our crops?” I will send you such a blessing in the sixth year that the land will yield enough for three years. While you plant during the eighth year, you will eat from the old crop and will continue to eat from it until the harvest of the ninth year comes in.” Leviticus 25:20-22
I challenge you today to rest 1 day a week without feeling guilty. Get recharged, refocused, and just rest – go ahead – you won’t fall behind.
God says above “I will send you such a blessing in the sixth year…”. In the King James Version it says, “I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year,”
God is such a gracious God. He says take off 1 day a week and “I will command my blessing upon you”.
Think about it, while I am resting, God is moving on my behalf.
Prosperity by rest.
Unbelievable.
I am glad I am a Christian.
