There are 9 Gifts of the Spirit:

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom [Gift 1], to another the message of knowledge [Gift 2] by means of the same Spirit, to another faith  [Gift 3] by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing  [Gift 4] by that one Spirit, to another miraculous [Gift 5] powers, to another prophecy  [Gift 6], to another distinguishing between spirits [Gift 7], to another speaking in different kinds of tongues  [Gift 8], and to still another the interpretation of tongues [Gift 9] . All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (NIV)

Have you ever wondered if any Christian can receive all 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit? Does it ever cross your mind that you have to be perfect, super spiritual, or very mature to get just some of the gifts? I do.

Let me ask again, does every Christian actually have the potential to receive all 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit? Let me ask you another question first before answering this one. What are 9 other things the Holy Spirit brings to Christians?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self- control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

Before I answer the question in the title we need to see the perfect symmetry of the Holy Spirit.

9 Fruits — 9 Gifts

The Holy Spirit is symbolized as a dove in the Bible (Luke 3:22). A dove has 2 wings. Does a dove fly well with just 1 wing? No. At best it flies in a circle if it flies at all. It takes 2 wings to fly forward. I propose to you the 9 fruits are like one wing and the 9 gifts are like the other wing. It takes all 18 things to fly forward.

Do you believe every Christian can actually have all 9 fruits? Of course, most Christians believe this as long as the Holy Spirit gives them the power to do it.

Why would the Holy Spirit allow you the potential of all 9 fruits and not all 9 gifts? You would be unbalanced and it would be hard to fly forward with just one wing.

So yes, every Christian actually has the potential to receive all 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit. At one time? I don’t think so anymore than we can grow in all 9 fruits at one time. But we believe that as the Holy Spirit enables us one day we will grow in all 9 fruits. We know we will never be perfect but we do expect progress in all 9 fruits.

I believe we can all receive all 9 gifts as the Holy Spirit enables. At one time? I don’t think so, but over time I do expect progress! The giver of the gifts lives inside of you. He wants to release them as soon as we are ready to receive them AND we expect to receive them. Believe and be ready to receive!
