Overcome and Occupy! – How? (Part 2 of 4)

God wants you to overcome. Adam and Eve were created as overcomers. They had perfect bodies, environment, circumstances, and a perfect Father (God). They had everything they needed but decided to not follow God and follow their own desires.

The original commandment to man is found here So God created people in his own image; God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them. God blessed them and told them, “Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it. Be masters over the fish and birds and all the animals.” Genesis 1:27-28 (NLT)

This is the 2nd part of how to overcome your world. I would encourage you to read part 1 here.

How do We Occupy and Overcome

It starts with understanding a formula: Plan + Prophetic = Purpose.

We all want to fulfill our purpose. We need 2 things to get there; a plan and the prophetic.

The Plan

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Genesis 1:1-2

When Holy Spirit was hovering over the Earth at the beginning of creation, he had a plan for the six days of creation. Creating all the beautiful animals, places, and people on the Earth came out of a plan.

That ability to plan and execute is what we need for our purpose. He doesn’t call you to something without actions to get there. It’s the same ability that he had when he created the Earth.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings. Psalms 25:2

This is talking about making us kings. Kings are people who walk with God in his kingdom. When you walk with God in his kingdom, you’re learning to be a king. You’re living his purpose for you, applying his commands and bringing his presence into your circumstances. So you get the plan from the king of Kings.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5

The first step to overcome or occupy is to ask Holy Spirit what is the plan. What is the plan for my problem that needs to be changed? He will give you the next steps you are to do. He usually won’t give all the steps, but he will give you the next steps.

Prophetic

What I mean by the prophetic is the ability to hear his voice. I am not referring to words of prophecy. Every one of us can hear his voice.

Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. John 8:47a

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. Romans 8:14

A couple of points about being led by the Spirit of God.

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the LORD told him. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. I Kings 19:11-12 (NLT)

In the KJV, “gentle whisper”, is translated “still small voice”. We need to slow down enough to feel the gentle and hear the still and small. Why doesn’t he talk to me in a louder voice? I enjoy talking loud, you may say. This is his personality. What can I say? He’s not a big talker. He talks with purpose. He doesn’t ramble. He doesn’t go on and on.

So, to achieve your purpose, we need to ask God for the next steps and then continue to listen to his voice carefully. He will tell us how and when to carry out each step. Sometimes he even changes the steps to see if we are still listening to him. He also wants to do the journey with us. He enjoys the relationship.

Summary: Ask For Plan & Listen Carefully

Embrace those areas of your life that needs reformation and God’s principles. Ask God which area you are to work on first. Commit that area to him. Ask him to make it look like it would if heaven came to earth.

May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:33

Then ask him for the plan and listen closely to his ongoing voice. Before you know it, that area of your life will look more like heaven on earth.
